SUMMARY:Emergency Water Trucking for Drought-Affected Communities
DESCRIPTION:Communities across the Puntland State of Somalia are facing one of the harshest impacts of climate change. Recurrent droughts\, now more frequent and more intense\, continue to threaten lives and livelihoods. Some areas in the Nugaal region and parts of Mudug have not received rain for more than a year. Pastoral households\, whose survival depends on livestock\, have been hit hardest as animals weaken and die due to the severe shortage of water and pasture. \nIn response to this critical situation\, Kaalo Nederland conducted emergency water trucking from 10 to 13 November 2025. During this intervention\, 40 of the most affected households in Budunbuto\, Nugaal region\, received clean water sufficient to sustain them for one month. This intervention provided immediate relief for families struggling to access even the most basic needs. \nWhile this support brought momentary safety to the selected households\, the scale of need across the region remains far greater than what any single organization can meet. The drought continues to threaten food security\, health and stability for thousands of people. \nKaalo Nederland remains committed to advocating for drought-affected communities and mobilizing resources to support them. We will continue working with partners\, donors and local authorities to deliver assistance where it is needed most and to amplify the voices of those enduring the impacts of climate change.

SUMMARY:Education and Sports Support for former Street Children
DESCRIPTION:On 2 November 2025\, our team visited Kulmiye Boarding College\, a rehabilitation and education centre that shelters and educates former street children\, to extend tangible support that enhances both their learning and daily wellbeing. \nKulmiye Boarding College provides a safe home\, a structured education\, and a path toward reintegration for children who previously lived on the streets. To contribute to their journey\, Kaalo Nederland donated sports equipment\, clothes and essential learning materials to 45 children in this college. The donation included sports jerseys that encourage active participation\, teamwork and a sense of belonging. Research and local experience show that access to sports improves school attendance\, builds social cohesion and supports emotional resilience\, which makes this contribution particularly meaningful. \nGiven that the visit took place during the peak of the winter season\, the children also received blankets and warm clothing to help them stay comfortable and healthy. To strengthen their academic progress\, Kaalo Nederland supplied exercise books\, pens and other basic learning tools. Each child also received a durable water bottle to ensure they have a clean and safe way to store and drink water. \nThis activity was made possible through the collaboration of the college volunteers and the Local Government of Garowe\, who continue to work tirelessly to provide these children with a stable home\, a school and a space to play. Kaalo Nederland is proud to complement their efforts. \nWe remain committed to supporting both current street children and those who have already transitioned into rehabilitation centres like Kulmiye. Our goal is to contribute to a future where every child has safety\, dignity and the opportunity to learn.

SUMMARY:Kaalo Nederland Hands Over Solar and Computer Equipment to 7 More Schools in Puntland
DESCRIPTION:On October 15\, 2025\, Kaalo Nederland officially handed over solar energy systems and fully equipped computer labs to seven schools across Puntland in a colorful ceremony that brought together government officials\, community leaders\, school representatives\, and members of civil society. The event\, held in Garowe\, marked another important milestone in Kaalo Nederland’s ongoing efforts to strengthen education through sustainable energy and technology. \nThe ceremony was graced by key government figures\, including the Director-General of the Ministry of Education\, the Director-General of the Ministry of Planning\, the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs\, and the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports. Representatives from the Puntland Parliament\, the Governor of Nugaal Region\, women representatives\, civil society organizations\, and community members were also in attendance. \nAll participants commended Kaalo Nederland’s contribution to advancing quality education and promoting sustainable development in Puntland. The schools expressed their gratitude and pride\, emphasizing their role in co-financing the initiative—an inspiring move toward self-reliance rather than depending solely on donor aid. \n“This equipment will help the children of our schools get access to digital tools and enhance the quality of education\,” said Farhan Abdinasir\, one of the principals of the seven beneficiary schools. \nEach school received a full solar power package consisting of 10 solar panels\, 8 batteries\, an inverter\, and wiring materials\, along with a modern computer lab containing 9–10 desktop computers. These resources will provide clean and uninterrupted power\, enabling students to study in the evenings\, teachers to prepare and print materials\, and schools to manage records digitally—all while introducing students to practical digital literacy skills. \nThe seven schools that benefited from this phase of the project are: \n\n\n\nSchool Name\nRegion\nDistrict\n\n\n\n\nKalyaxeed Primary & Intermediate\nNugaal\nDangorayo\n\n\nQarxis Primary & Intermediate\nNugaal\nEyl\n\n\nKarood Primary & Intermediate\nNugaal\nGarowe\n\n\nMustaqbal Primary & Intermediate\nNugaal\nBuurtinle\n\n\nAbdalle Ibrahim Primary & Secondary\nBari\nBosaso\n\n\nBilaal Primary & Secondary\nRaas-casayr\nBaargaal\n\n\nBeyra Primary & Secondary\nMudug\nGalkacyo\n\n\n\nSince 2021\, Kaalo Nederland has been supporting schools in remote parts of Puntland with solar energy and digital learning tools. SUMMARY:30 Young Women Graduate from Women in Leadership Project
DESCRIPTION:On August 5\, 2025\, Kaalo Nederland and PIMAT celebrated the graduation of 30 young women who completed a two-year diploma in Office Management and Secretary. The ceremony\, held at Kaalo Nederland’s Youth Center Hall in Garowe\, brought together government officials\, parliamentarians\, universities\, and community leaders. \nSpeakers praised the project for transforming lives and called for more initiatives that equip young women with marketable skills and employment opportunities. \nA highlight of the event was when two institutions attending the ceremony offered jobs to two graduates on the spot\, showing the program’s real impact in connecting skills with the job market. \nBeyond the ceremony\, the Women in Leadership project has had a lasting impact: 8 of the graduates also secured employment at the end of their two-month internship program\, proving that the training provided is directly opening doors to real opportunities. \nThe Women in Leadership project continues to be a model of empowerment\, opening doors for young women and strengthening their role in Puntland’s social and economic development.
