From May 2025 to February 2026, Kaalo Nederland implemented the Sustainable Education II Project to improve access to quality education, digital learning opportunities, and reliable electricity in remote schools across Puntland, Somalia.<\/p>

The project supported seven schools serving more than 3,400 students across four regions: Mudug, Nugaal, Raas-asayr, and Bari. The supported schools were located in the districts of Gaalkacyo, Buurtinle, Garowe, Dangorayo, Eyl, Baargaal, and Ufeyn.<\/p>

Each school received a complete solar energy system consisting of 10 solar panels, eight dry-cell batteries, and an inverter, providing a sustainable source of electricity for educational activities. In addition, each school was equipped with a computer laboratory containing 10 computers and a printer, allowing students and teachers to access digital learning resources and develop ICT skills.<\/p>

To ensure effective use and sustainability, Kaalo Nederland trained two teachers from each school: one responsible for solar system operation and maintenance, and one responsible for managing the ICT laboratory and supporting computer-based learning. School communities were encouraged to maintain and protect the facilities to ensure long-term benefits.<\/p>

The project improved the learning environment by reducing electricity challenges and enabling schools to conduct computer-based learning. Students gained access to technology for the first time, while teachers were able to integrate ICT into education.<\/p>

One student shared:<\/p>

“It is my first time to ever lay my hands on a computer.”<\/em><\/p>

In Baargaal, Bilaal School<\/strong> reported that, for the first time in years of operation, the school was able to print examinations independently and on time, reducing delays and reliance on external services.<\/p>

By completion, seven schools had improved access to renewable energy, digital learning facilities, and educational technology. Sustainable Education II demonstrates Kaalo Nederland’s commitment to strengthening education through sustainable solutions that empower students, teachers, and communities.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
