In many parts of rural and semi-rural Somalia, the quality of education remains critically low due to inadequate infrastructure, particularly the lack of electricity, computers, and proper classroom furniture. These limitations leave children in remote towns far behind their urban peers in terms of access to modern learning tools and opportunities.
To bridge this gap, Kaalo Nederland launched the Basic Educational Facilities I Project in 2021, aiming to strengthen school infrastructure and promote digital learning in underserved areas of Puntland.
Project Highlights:
Innovative Impact – Budunbuto School:
Budunbuto Primary and Secondary School stood out by extending its solar power beyond the school building to serve the village’s only maternal and child health (MCH) center, improving healthcare delivery. Additionally, the school used its new resources creatively by starting a popsicle-making initiative, selling cold treats to local children. This small enterprise not only served the community but also became a source of income for the school.
