Completed Project – 7

From 2023 to 2024, Kaalo Nederland successfully implemented the Sustainable Education Project, an initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of education in remote areas of Puntland through the provision of solar energy systems and computer labs.

Project Highlights:

• Six schools across Puntland were equipped with reliable solar systems, providing continuous access to electricity.
• Each school received a fully equipped computer lab, complete with computers, projectors, printers, and essential accessories.
• The project enabled students to study beyond daylight hours, supporting evening classes, revisions, and remedial sessions.
• School administrators were empowered to digitize school data, print exams, and manage records more efficiently.

Impact:

Thanks to this project, towns that once faced educational darkness now shine with opportunity. Over 2,000 students now have access to free, round-the-clock electricity and digital learning tools. Children no longer need to travel to bigger towns for better education, as their own schools now offer similar facilities. The initiative has also contributed to improved school retention rates and digital literacy among rural youth.

With an expected lifespan of 15+ years, the solar and digital infrastructure provided will continue to benefit thousands more students in the years to come. This project directly supports Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by promoting inclusive, equitable, and technology-enhanced learning environments.
