On October 15, 2025, Kaalo Nederland officially handed over solar energy systems and fully equipped computer labs to seven schools across Puntland in a colorful ceremony that brought together government officials, community leaders, school representatives, and members of civil society. The event, held in Garowe, marked another important milestone in Kaalo Nederland’s ongoing efforts to strengthen education through sustainable energy and technology.
The ceremony was graced by key government figures, including the Director-General of the Ministry of Education, the Director-General of the Ministry of Planning, the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, and the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports. Representatives from the Puntland Parliament, the Governor of Nugaal Region, women representatives, civil society organizations, and community members were also in attendance.
All participants commended Kaalo Nederland’s contribution to advancing quality education and promoting sustainable development in Puntland. The schools expressed their gratitude and pride, emphasizing their role in co-financing the initiative—an inspiring move toward self-reliance rather than depending solely on donor aid.
“This equipment will help the children of our schools get access to digital tools and enhance the quality of education,” said Farhan Abdinasir, one of the principals of the seven beneficiary schools.
Each school received a full solar power package consisting of 10 solar panels, 8 batteries, an inverter, and wiring materials, along with a modern computer lab containing 9–10 desktop computers. These resources will provide clean and uninterrupted power, enabling students to study in the evenings, teachers to prepare and print materials, and schools to manage records digitally—all while introducing students to practical digital literacy skills.

Since 2021, Kaalo Nederland has been supporting schools in remote parts of Puntland with solar energy and digital learning tools. With this latest handover, the organization has now reached 22 schools and one youth center across the region.
