This is a multifaceted project that addresses two critical areas: education and livelihoods.
Kaalo Nederland is supporting seven public schools in remote towns across Puntland by equipping them with solar energy systems and computer labs. Each school receives a comprehensive solar setup including 10 solar panels, 8 dry-cell batteries, an inverter, and all necessary components to ensure reliable electricity. In addition, each school is provided with a fully functional computer lab, equipped with computers and a projector, all powered by the solar system. To enhance learning environments, the project also supplies essential furniture and educational materials such as stationery.
The second part of the project focuses on improving food security through fisheries development. It targets former nomadic communities who have relocated to coastal towns due to recurring droughts. Participants undergo a six-month training in modern fishery practices. Upon graduation, they are organized into fishing crews under a unified fishery cooperative and supported with fishing boats, gear, and business training. They also receive assistance with market access to enhance income generation and sustainability.
